Sentinel Bioactive Paper Network research will generate new knowledge empowering our worldwide industrial partners to develop innovative, high value-added paper and packaging products. These products will incorporate biologically active chemicals for a range of applications.

Consider the third world, where people currently filter unsanitary water through dirty cloths in a vain attempt to create safe drinking water. This water is not safe for consumption, particularly after floods and other natural disasters. We envision a bioactive paper strip, which when dipped in small containers of water, removes pathogens and gives the user a colour indication that the water is safe to drink. Back at home, we envision paper towels, which can alert the user about contaminated food preparation surfaces.
